BREAKING NEWS: The Association of the Hotels and the Tourist Projects of the East Zone celebrated its traditional gala dinner during which the group gave prizes to various personalities of the zone.

The « Hotel keeper of the Year » reward was given to the manager of the Ifa Villas Bávaro Hotel, Carlos Jiménez Ruiz.

Kelin Medrano of Politur, Peter John Thomas of Amstart DMC and Simón Barceló of the Barceló chain were also rewarded. « Resumen Turismo » received a special recognition for its 20 years of sustainable support in favor of the tourist development of the country.

Ernesto Veloz, president of the Association, said that this handing-over of prizes was a demonstration of recognition for the hotel keepers, the authorities and for all those involved in the tourist development.

It was the eighth time that the hotel keepers of the East zone celebrated their gala dinner.

The funds collected during this occasion will be intended for the construction of a fire station in the tourist area.

BREAKING NEWS: President Leonel Fernández received a proposal of the tourist contractors of the Province of La Altagracia for the setting up in this zone of an elite squadron exclusively devoted to fight the drug traffic in this zone.

The Head of the State supported this initiative coming from the tourist companies from Macao, Bávaro, Punta Cana, Cortecito and Uvero, which were committed supporting the construction of the military place.

This infrastructure was suggested to face the concern of the tourist company managers of the East Zone as for the increase in the drug traffic during these last months.

For this reason they requested to built an enclosure in which will be detached a squadron specialized in the drug traffic fighting.

Were also present at the meeting with President Fernández, the president of Asonahores, Haydée Curet de Rainieri, the secretary of the Armed Forces, general lieutenant Pedro Rafael Peña Antonio; the chiefs of the FAD and of the Navy, general Carlos Manuel Altuna Tezanos and vice admiral Julio César Ventura Bayonet, as well as other authorities of the area and province.

After this meeting, the Head of the State met in Casa del Arzobispado with representatives of the province who subjected the principal Community needs to him, including the dams on Sanate and Chavón Ríos, the completion of work of the aqueduct of Higüey and the electrification of forty communities, among other work.
