In new tourist projectsBREAKING NEWS: The Tourist Council of Development of the country (Confotur) examined last week the proposals for 24 new investment plans, for a global amount of 3 billion 442 million dollars, according to the information given yesterday by the Tourism Minister, Francisco Javier García.
These projects will have as a consequence the creation of more than 15 thousand employments and approximately 14 thousand new hotel rooms.
Only one of these investments exceeds 1 billion 600 million dollars, and it will start to develop in November, declared the civil servant.
García indicated that Confotur will meet this Thursday once again, in order to examine other projects which engage also more than 3 billion dollars.
With the previous meeting and that of this Thursday, the projects presented to Confotur involve a sum higher than 6 billion 442 million dollars, which is equivalent to approximately 225 billion 470 million pesos.
García added that the investments were going to be made in various tourist areas, like Bávaro, Punta Cana, Puerto Plata, Juan Dolio and Las Terrenas, and are regarding hotel projects, villas, apartments, golf courses and an artificial lagoon of 180 thousand square meters in the zone of Punta Cana.
He pointed out that tourism is one of the sector less affected by the international crises, like those of real estate and financier sectors of the USA and the oil crisis.
“With the real crisis of the United States, it is a true boom of sales of real estate related to tourism which happened here” he affirmed.
He added that in order to facilitate these steps, Confotur will continue to meet in a weekly way or every 15 days, in order that in two months we will be able to accelerate everything related to investment plans

Development and co-operationBREAKING NEWS: Seminars, conferences, workshops, exhibitions and social and cultural activities on matters in direct connection with the development, will take place in Bávaro within the framework of the International Conference of Americas (CILA 2008).
It will be the meeting point of more than 1.500 young people of Dominican Republic, Latin America and other areas of the world, who will work together in an atmosphere of diplomacy and co-operation, to find solution to the challenges faced by the International Community.
On the Model of the United Nations, 13 discussion committees will be carried out which will simulate various organisms and commissions of the United Nations and other multilateral, regional and international institutions, in the working languages: Spanish, English and French.
On this occasion, the CILA will frame a series of parallel activities with the Model of the United Nations, among which: the Regional Meeting of UNESCO Networks and Policies of Youth: Let us build the present and the future of the Americas
; the first Regional Seminar & Workshop for Journalists on the United Nations and Global Affairs, the second Regional Meeting of Associations of the United Nations (ANUs) and the Information Centers of the United Nations (CINUs), Latin America and of the Caribbean and finally, the Dominico-Haitian Forum on Company, Business gestation and Youthful Employment.

Fernández asks the young people to apply acquired knowledgeBREAKING NEWS: BAVARO. - President Leonel Fernández exhorted the young people to apply the knowledge acquired in the conference rooms, while he ensured that the model of the United Nations, reproduced each year in the country, with young people of various academic institutions, represents a true revolution of the education in Dominican Republic.
The Chief of State chaired the closing ceremony of the IV International Conference of Americas (CILA 2008), attended by more than 1.500 young people of Dominican Republic, Latin America and other areas of the, participating to this event organized by the Association of the United Nations of Dominican Republic (ANU-RD) and the Global Foundation of Democracy and Development.
Fernández ensured that the active participation of the students during this meeting generated a new form of mentality, a new manner to observe the world events, by creating a greater sensitivity on various subjects which affect the humanity.
In this way, he ensured that this model helps to create a new thought in the young people and a greater capacity of comprehension.
Joined together since Wednesday 15, in the Barceló Bávaro Convention Center, the young students were protagonists of the fourth model of the United Nations organized in the country, where they worked as delegated of various countries which form the United Nations in an atmosphere of diplomacy and co-operation, for the research of solution to the challenges faced by the International community.
They also launched on the Dominican ground the campaign « Stand Up and Act against Poverty and for the Development of the Millennium Objectives », to which participate on Friday 17, the singer Juan Luis Guerra and the sportsman Marcos Díaz.
The CILA constitutes one of the greatest conferences of the whole area, where students, academic and expert in related matters meet to treat topics and challenges faced by the International community with the aim to find a consensus.

In the Moon Palace hotelBREAKING NEWS: The Casinos department of the Public Revenue office of Dominican Republic approved the fitting out of a casino in the Moon Palace Casino Golf and Spa Resort, in Bávaro, Punta Cana.
The inspectors of the Public Revenue office checked that the establishment fulfilled all the necessary conditions to guarantee a good service.
The Moon Palace hotel will have 1,791 superior luxury suites, 200 presidential suites, 192 for honeymoon, 4 villas and 20 rooms for persons with physical handicap under the « All Inclusive » package, in an area of two million square meters.
The casino commission of the country determined that the game room will measure 4542 square meters and will be equipped with an area of tables for games, with fruit machines, with a safe room, with a bar, toilets, control room with cameras, with an emergency exit and rooms for the croupiers to rest.
The construction of the tourist high-class complex and complementary services, located in the Macao zone, La Altagracia province, started last year with a pick hit of President Leonel Fernández, and in that moment, the investment was set at more than 3 billion dollars, in a 3-year period.
The casino commission explained in its report that the Moon Palace will have ten restaurants, six bars, eleven pools for adults and three for kids, a game area, Jacuzzi in the rooms and a big discotheque.
Besides, it will count with a gymnasium, a convention center that will be able to accommodate 5000 persons sat on a 10 114 square meters area, a theater, the largest spa in Latin America with 65 treatment cabins and a beauty salon with 37 stations, Internet, telecommunication services and three golf courses designed by Jack Nickalus and Von Hassgen.
